I recently got the chance talked to one of our local sound doctors, Sarah Gecan at Daddy Kool Records about all the new music releases in store for the fall season.
As autumn approaches we look forward to new music, sweaters and beards. As Gercan sees it, “Fall is the season for bearded men.” Some of her favorites at the moment are Horrible Crowes and Blitzen Trapper, both folky and both bearded! She also gave me a heads up on what bands to be on the look out for, who’s got a record coming out and what shows to look forward to this upcoming fall season.
October releases:
Bjork- The release date for “Biophilia” was pushed back until October 10, but the new album promises to be an incredible creation of themes blending nature, science and music. Download one of the apps that combines her music with technology for a celestial experience with the new songs.
Feist- Her new album, Metals will be in stores on October 3. Feist's first single from the album “How Come You Never Go There” is simple and sultry, a thread I hope follows throughout the entire album.
Mute Math- The new single “Blood Pressure” off the album Old Soul already has my blood rising. A frenzy of ear-blowing awesomeness that will surely throw you into convulsions when it releases October 4. If not, watch the video.
Class Actress- Rapprocher is set to be released on October 18. Her classic 80’s synth sound is even sexier than before on her new single “Weekend.”
Surfer Blood- The Florida natives just dropped by Crowbar in Tampa to play and promote their forthcoming EP, Tarot Classics. The band is ditching lo-fi for this second album out October 25 and from the sound of their new single “Miranda” I think I may miss it....
Tom Waits- His first studio album since 2004, Bad As Me is also set to be released on October 25 and is said to be chalk full of Waits signature raspy, bluesy goodness.
October shows:
Mates of State at The Orpheum - Oct. 8th
Arctic Monkeys at The Ritz - Oct. 9th
Gym Heroes at Jannus Live - Oct. 12th
