It's no secret that St. Petersburg is a city that loves the arts. Museums like the Dali Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts bring in thousands of visitors each year, while galleries line the city streets prominently displaying prolific work of notable St. Petersburg artists.
While the establishments are nice, St. Pete takes it a step further with a wide array of terrific arts-related events throughout the year. Here are a few upcoming ones you can't miss.
Second Saturday Gallery Walk - Everyone heads to Downtown St. Pete for the entertainment and party atmosphere of First Friday, but you can't forget about Second Saturday while discussing great art events in St. Petersburg. Once a month, galleries lining St. Pete's famous Central Avenue open their doors for extended evening hours and free public viewing. This is a great way to get a glimpse of how diverse and unique local art can be.
Dance in 48 Hours - Going down at The Studio@620 in Downtown St. Petersburg, Dance in 48 hours is an event where four notable, local choreographers bunker down in the studio and create a full-on dance show in a limited 48 hours. Rehearsals begin July 8 and are free to the public. Final performances will be on Saturday, July 9 at 6 and 8 p.m. and cost $20 for adults and $15 for seniors and students.
Yoga + Dali - For an interesting combination of ancient Asian exercise and Spanish surrealist art, check out Yoga + Dali happening every Saturday from noon till 1:30 p.m at the Dali Museum. Classes are typically held in the community room or their garden, both with incredible waterfront scenery. Enjoy an invigorating session of vinyassa yoga surrounded by some of the greatest art of our time. Cost is $10 for members and students, $15 for non-members.
Live Arts on the 600 Block - This one happens on the third Saturday of every month. Head down to the Live Arts event on Downtown St. Petersburg's 600 block (6th Street and Central Avenue) for a free community event featuring artists crafting their creations right on the sidewalk, live music, fashion, and a number of specials from the galleries and shops on the block.
