A battle has descended upon Downtown St. Pete. No need to batten down the hatches, though. This is a battle of culinary wits, creativity, and deliciousness.
It's the Second Annual Battle of the Burg(er) and it's taking place amongst some of the best restaurants in St. Pete's Grand Central District's from now until August 31.
Participating restaurants in the 2013 Battle of the Burg(er) include Beak's Old Florida, Cappy's, Craftsman House Gallery & Cafe, Georgie's Alibi, Mayster's Cafe, Urban Brew & BBQ, and The Queens Head.
Each of these restaurants have crafted a special burger for the competition. Read about each of these unique creations below.
Beak's Old Florida "Becco Burger" - Two quarter-pound patties made of ground Italian sausage and sirloin served on a hoagie roll and topped with fried pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and Italian herbed mayo.
Craftsman House Gallery & Cafe "Bungalow Burger" - A veggie patty made with a blend of garbanzo beans,quinoa, zucchini, pumpkin, corn, and spices over a bed of spinach topped with tomatoes, onions, & a curry tzatziki sauce, all nestled between a buttery croissant.
The Burg Bar "The Burg" - Ground burger patty topped with gyro meat, grilled feta, homemade tzatziki, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and onions.
Georgie’s Alibi "Lucky 13″ - Ground Angus beef patty stuffed with cheddar and crumbled bacon. Topped with more bacon and cheddar, Sea Dog beer-flavored onion crisps, Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce, crunchy dill pickle chips and a spread of Georgie’s’ sauce, all between a classic bun.
Mayster’s Café ”Benedict Burger” - 4 oz. ground Angus patty topped with cured ham, a soft poached egg, and topped with fresh Hollandaise on a toasted sesame bun.
Urban Brew and BBQ "SML (Smoking Meat Loaf Burger)" - Meat loaf, bacon - enough said.
The Battle of the Burg(er) has two categories: Judges' Choice (scored by a panel of celebrity judges) and Peoples' Choice.
