Weapons manufacturer General Dynamics has recently announced the close and move of its 90-employee armament and technical products operation from Charlotte, N.C. into a pre-existing St. Petersburg office according to the Tampa Bay Times.
While General Dynamics will maintain some of its employees, an undetermined number of new hires for these jobs in St. Pete are expected to come, the Times reports.
"Corporate management-type functions, finance, legal and human resources" are the types of jobs that General Dynamics will be hiring for according to a quote given to the Times from General Dynamics spokesman Rob Doolittle.
General Dynamics' St. Pete location at 11399 16th Court N just off of Roosevelt Blvd. will now become the headquarters for the company's ordnance and tactical systems as well as armament and technical products operations. This division was in charge of manufacturing mortar weapons, artillery projectiles, bomb bodies and propellants.
With the consolidation of the North Carolina offices, the pre-existing office here will now add the overseeing of vehicle survivability systems for the U.S. military and its allies, as well as suspension systems for heavy military and commercial vehicles to its repertoire, the Times reports.
General Dynamics is a Fortune 500 company which specializes in aerospace and defense. As of 2010, it employs 91,200 workers throughout the world according to Google Finance.
