For anyone with kids or just grown-up kids at heart in the 727area, the Clearwater Marine Aquarium is a prime destination for aquatic wildlife attractions, education, and fun in the Clearwater area.  And now, it's got a chance of getting bigger as the Clearwater City Council is now reviewing a request from the aquarium allowing it to take over an additional 5,000 square feet of space next door.

With its rising popularity - due much in part to the recent feature film Dolphin Tale which highlights the touching story of Clearwater Marine Aquarium's amputee dolpin, Winter - an expansion for the aquarium seems to make sense.

The additional 5,000 square feet of space is located on the first floor of the neighboring Harborview Center.  This space in the former trade center will likely be utilized for storage.  The Clearwater Marine Aquarium already utilizes its second floor for an assortment of exhibits and movie props in a sections called Winter's Dolphin Tale Adventure.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, the Clearwater City Council will likely approve the request tonight, July 19 to get the ball rolling on the aquarium's expansion.  Once approved, the Clearwater Marine Aquarium is expected to pay $21,000 annually ($4 a square foot) to rent this section of the Harborview Center.
