Maybe it's just us, but sometimes you just need a drink without all the frills. Forget ultra-lounges, swanky restaurants, drinks made with exotic fruits from far-off lands, just give us a can of cold beer or a mixed drink in a plastic cup and we'll be happy campers. Plus, there's some kind of old-time, everyone-knows-your-name charm about cheap, neighborhood dives around the city.
Luckily, St. Pete's got a bunch. Here's a couple places you can drink without breaking the bank.
The Sake Bomb - The Sake Bomb specializes in, you guessed it, sake! With deals all throughout the week like 2-4-1 sake, beer, saketinis and more, you can drink the night away without looking at your wallet and instantly regretting it in the morning. Enjoy outdoor seating, a live DJ on some nights, arcade games, and much more in Sake Bomb's modern, comfortable atmosphere.
Mastry's - If you want to relax with the locals and drink on the cheap, a visit to Mastry's is a must. In fact, the Mastry's name and St. Petersburg have been historically synonymous since 1935. Frequently visited by Babe Ruth, Billy Martin, and Jack Kerouac back in the day, Mastry's still carries that old time charm with a few additions like a jukebox, dartboard, and TVs.
Emerald Bar - The Emerald is like every worn-down, wooden-themed bar you've probably seen in the movies, and that's kind of what makes it special. This ain't no old folks bar, though. Modern art lines the walls with a typically young, hipster-y crowd swilling beers like it's going out of style and rock music cranking through the sound system. The only drawback; Emerald only accepts cash, so remember to hit up the ATM, or use the one they've got (for a charge) before you get to drinkin'.
Fubar - Fubar is the perfect bar for St. Pete's young and wreckless. Dark, smoky, loud, Fubar is the place to be if you take comfort in dive-y neighborhood bars. Fubar's also a great place to catch some local, live music on the cheap while sipping on a $2 PBR or any of their other 150, yes 150, draft and bottled beers.
