Picture a pop-up, open-air nightclub featuring chic, comfy furniture, lights subtly strung among the trees and lots of fashionably clad folks on - and off - the stage. Like a mirage, Chillounge Night is a one-of-a-kind event that springs up in the heart of a city where it welcomes a well-dressed crowd for an evening of fine food, craft cocktails, dazzling art, exciting entertainment and more. It's a great event that glows with a cool vibe and is like no other event in Tampa Bay. It's a sexy night of food, fashion and fun as Chillounge Night returns with its signature festivities.
It’s all gorgeous and glamorous and a very visual experience that is the creation of Rainer Scheer, founder of Chillounge Night events that have dazzled and delighted fans in nine Florida cities. While it’s all about having a good time, the festivities also raise money for good causes that are headquartered in each host community. To date, more than $126,000 has been raised for the local charities selected. Creative Clay has been a beneficiary of some of those funds since 2008. The St. Petersburg-based arts organization’s mission is to make the arts accessible to all by providing “expressive, educational and vocational experiences” to people with disabilities.
This year’s “Illumination” event taking place in North Straub Park on Saturday, Nov. 17, marks the 11th Annual St. Petersburg Chillounge Night. Over the years, Scheer continues to keep the concept fresh by incorporating new ways to transform simple outdoor settings into upscale, inviting lounges that entice guests to gather. Today it takes three semi-trucks of lounge chairs, daybeds and other elements, like cool art LED installations and new LED furniture such as swings for guests to climb aboard, to create what can best be described as a stunning playground of color.
“We love St. Pete and North Straub Park is our most beautiful Chillounge Night location. With our new concept Illumination, we want to push the park’s ambiance and atmosphere to the next level. I am always looking to create a magical evening that is unique, elegant and stylish,“ said Sarasota resident Scheer. “The Illumination concept will elevate this evening into a night everyone will remember.”
An animated “LED Robot,” Tuni, a fire dance performer, and Phoebe’s Samba troupe, that will be sporting feather costumes festooned with LED lights, will be among the evening’s more illuminating elements.
Throughout the years there have been colorful samba lines, the must-see-to-believe Cleopatra Daybed Fashion Parade, fashion shows with evening gowns to swimwear, artistic acrobats and aerialists and stilt walkers. Live music is always a major feature and this year’s line-up includes Kafkasso and Smooth D and The Boyz plus spins by DJ Chris Craze to set and maintain the mood.
Like any high-end nightclub, pets are prohibited. Adults, 21 and over, are welcome.
General admission tickets are available online for $30 in advance and $40 the day of the event. Guests can certainly roam freely but reserved seating ensures you will eat and drink in comfort whenever the mood to sit hits. The A-J Lounge package includes four general admission tickets plus a table and chair for the entire evening for $240. VIP ticket options include complimentary food and beverages and start at $120 for a single ticket and go to $950 for a suite that accommodates six people.
