Jannus Live owner Jeff Knight is continuing to expand his ever-growning nightlife empire in Downtown St. Pete with the opening of his newest venture, Club Detroit, in the former location of the recently-closed Vintage Ultra Lounge, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
Club Detroit will add to Knight's assortment of nightlife hubs and music venues along the old Detroit Hotel block, which is flanked by Central Ave., 1st Ave. N., 2nd St., and 3rd St. in Downtown St. Pete. These include MacDinton's St. Pete Irish Pub & Restaurant, Jannus Live, and now, Club Detroit.
The club officially opened last night with a concert by southern metal outfit Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, and this is set to be the norm. Gone is the gaudy decor and overpriced drinks of Vintage Ultra Lounge and in is another live music in Downtown St. Pete's roster of many which will host both bands large and small.
But, this isn't Club Detroit's first time around the block, quite literally. From 1981 to 1995, Club Detroit was a live music mainstay in the St. Pete area hosting concerts from everyone to the Offspring, Stone Temple Pilots, Warren Zevon, and many more.
Right now Knight and the club promise rock bands every Thursday night, DJs every Friday and Saturday, and soon, a Nashville Night on Sundays which will host performances from local singer-songwriters and more.
We'll keep you updated as more news arises.
