Green Iguana, one of the biggest local bar and restaurant chains in the Tampa Bay area, has closed its St. Petersburg location at 8790 Bay Pines Boulevard in the Tyrone area.
Green Iguana officials decided not to renew the lease on the St. Petersburg Green Iguana, the franchise's only waterside location at this point in time.
But, when one door closes, a few more tend to open. Green Iguana recently opened a brand new location inside the Tampa International Airport which had its soft opening on May 1. The official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new location will take place on May 30.
In addition, Green Iguana just took top honors at the Inaugural Burger Showdown at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park this past Friday. Their winning burger, a gluttonous schmorgasboard of pulled pork, smoked cheese, fried sweet potato and a tempura-fried pickle atop a 1/2 pound beef patty called the "Ala damn Bama Bourbon BBQ Burger" will be available at all Green Iguana locations for the next month.
Green Iguana first opened in the Westshore District then eventually expanded to locations all throughout Tampa Bay including Ybor City, North Tampa, and Brandon.
