Green Market Cafe is a locally-owned restaurant serving healthy, fresh food options such as salads, wraps, soups, and rice bowls specifically aimed for health-conscious families. There are three locations as well as a catering kitchen in Clearwater, Oldsmar, St. Petersburg, and Tampa. Green Market Cafe is celebrating their ten year anniversary this month and they are hoping to expand their business to other suburban areas within the next four years across Florida.

Green Market Cafe is Unique

This restaurant was created for health-conscious individuals and the cafe's menu is broader than most other healthy restaurants in the area. Green Market Cafe's portions are sizeable to other competing restaurants as well.  "Basically I wanted to create a place where I would want to eat at every day," Green Market Cafe owner Andrew Koumi said. Green Market Cafe is also known for giving customers a free soft serve of sorbet or yogurt with every meal as well as their half-off promotion on bowls weekdays 3-6:30 p.m. and family size all day long Saturday and Sunday. 

Green Market Cafe's Sustainability Efforts

The restaurant uses a lot of eco-friendly disposable paper products inside the store to minimize the cafe's environmental footprint. Green Market Cafe has a local produce company which delivers to all of their locations, to ensure the food they serve is fresh, never frozen or processed. Green Market Cafe Owner Andrew Koumi believes fostering sustainable agriculture is important and using fresh, local ingredients means the cafe's food will taste better. "It keeps everything in the region," he said. "Florida produces a lot of produce itself so it's a shame to go outside of Florida. Especially in Tampa Bay, we are very close to fresh tomatoes, strawberries and it's important to keep these local farmers going."

Plans To Expand

Green Market Cafe is looking to expand its business to 50 new locations within the next four years to other suburban areas across the state of Florida. "We really want to focus on health-conscious young families," Owner Andrew Koumi said. "We want to grow into their neighborhoods with community involvement." Green Market Cafe began franchising in June and they are currently selling the stores. The cafe also has a delicious salad dressing line, featuring four different salad dressing on shelves at Sprouts Farmers Markets. Green Market Cafe's catering is also very successful as they are featured within the top 100 out of 81,000 restaurants across the country on the catering platform, ezcater.
