The Getaway Tiki Bar, one of the Bay area’s most popular waterfront restaurants, will be opening a second location in South St. Petersburg’s revamped Maximo Marina. Its first location, which is also in St. Petersburg off of Gandy Boulevard, looks out on beautiful Old Tampa Bay and serves coastal cuisine and tropical cocktails. The Getaway’s relaxing, colorful atmosphere is reminiscent of a resort in the Bahamas with palm trees, cabanas, and beach chairs on the waterfront. The tiki bar’s second location will be very similar to its first, but there will also be a couple of new features unique to the South St. Petersburg location.
As part of an effort to revive St. Petersburg’s Skyway Marina District, Maximo Marina recently underwent multi-million renovations. The Getaway owners Dave Burton and Scott and Karina Tashkin found the marina an attractive location with its waterfront, boater-friendly scene. Scheduled to open in October 2017, the new tiki bar will be moving into a 4,000 square foot space that was once a MarineMax sales office. The second location will have a larger kitchen, providing chefs new opportunities to experiment with the menu and accommodate an expanded raw bar. The Getaway will also offer dockside delivery to Maximo Marina’s tenants as well as a deli and carry-out menu so you can grab a slice of paradise on-the-go.
